Best Restaurants in Montego Bay

Jamaica is known for its authentic cuisine, which stems from a melting pot of different influences and is a major part of life on the island. The growing appetite for variety in Montego Bay has given rise to a number of great restaurants and eateries offering food from around the world. Here are my picks for the top 10 restaurants in Montego Bay. (NOT in order of preference.) If you need some help deciding where to eat in Montego Bay, this post gives a summary of the best dining spots in town.

The House Boat

As the name suggests, this is fine dining on the Caribbean Sea! If you are looking for a romantic spot for two, or a cosy corner to celebrate with friends, this is the place. The experience starts when you are transported from the bank of the Lagoon on a rustic, floating bridge, where you are then welcomed aboard. The seafood is fantastic, but you cannot skip dessert here! You simply must try the chocolate lava pudding… you’ll thank me later!

The Pelican

Family-owned and operated restaurant on Montego Bay’s Hip Strip (Jimmy Cliff Boulevard) serving traditional Jamaican dishes and international favourites since 1964. Also known for its old-school soda bar and the best milkshakes in town! I also recommend their Jamaican breakfast!

Mystic Thai and Mystic India

Sister Restaurants based at opposite ends of the town, Mytic Thai is located in the Fairview Towne Centre and Mystic India is in Whitter Village, Ironshore. Both have extensive menus of exotic foods from the East. The settings are intimate and inviting. You may feel clueless about what you’re ordering, but the servers are always happy to assist. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed! Everything I’ve ordered there has been delicious.

Uncorked

If you are looking for a hip wine bar with great food, this is the place to be! The have the widest selection of cheeses in Montego Bay and a wide selection of wines from various regions. It’s easy to spend hours here with family and friends. I highly recommend the baked brie, the salads and the Carla!

Pier 1

Another local favourite, Pier 1 offers open air dining by the sea throughout the week, and on Friday nights it transforms into a nightclub! The expansive bar is the heart of this spot and it is a great place to catch up with friends. My favourite dish is the Mai Mai!

Bellefield Great House Restaurant

Set on a historic site, this beautiful venue is a popular choice for weddings and events. Enjoy al fresco dining against a captivating cut stone backdrop, while restaurant owner and head chef, Robbie Joseph, whips up some good old favourites. The lobster is always a winner for me.

The Sugar Mill Restaurant

The Half Moon Resort’s award-winning restaurant is set on a beautiful historic site, offering impressive Jamaican cuisine with international flair. Each dish is a work of art.

Scotchie’s Jerk Restaurant

It would not be Jamaica, if you didn’t include Montego Bay’s most famous jerk spot. This is the place for simple, comfort food, in a laid back, rustic, outdoor setting. The smell is mesmerizing! Try everything!

Peppa’s Cool Spot

With a bar and deck built around a big beautiful tree, this cool spot is the epitome of Jamaica’s rustic charm. Chef Bernard “Peppa” Morrison puts his spin on a range of local and international favourites. The lobster, curried mutton and home-style burger are definite must-haves!

East Japanese

This much-loved chain of restaurants recently opened its Montego Bay location in the Fairview Shopping Centre. It offers an extensive menu of tasty options. You should definitely try one of their bento boxes. You won’t be disappointed!

I hope you will give these restaurants in Montego Bay a try. If you want to learn more about local food, check out this post as well.
